Hey There Adventurers.
Damian the DM here.
I touched on this a bit during the last newsletter, but with the entirety of the Mieveht Story - Arc 1 being remastered, I am going to be taking a decent break from editing. It is going to be at least 4 week, possibly even longer. While I am happy to have decided to fill the time since we have not been able to record with this remaster project, it has been rough.
Unexpectedly, I think it was actually harder for me to rework the old content than it has been for me to work on new content. There are a few reasons for this, and I think many of them were the result of our growth as a show over the years. If you look at the lengths of those episodes before and after they were remastered, I often cut 30-50% of the episode. Some of this is just the result of the course of the show taking us in a new direction that the initial vision, while some of this were the result of what I now just see as bad editing choices.
I can’t pin down exactly what it was the made these episodes so hard to work on for me, but if you look at the release schedule since I have been working on them, or are a regular reader of our newsletter, you might notice that I was averaging about 3 weeks on them instead of the 2 weeks I tried to get original releases out in. I think with a big breaking point like reaching the end of an arc, it is the perfect time to actually stop for a bit and let myself recharge. However, that is not to say I am going away. I consider myself a content creator at heart now, and I do have some plans for this break.
First of all, we have Twitch. I have been on a regular schedule for streaming for quite some time now, and I have just recently reached affiliate. I have no plans to stop or slow down the stream schedule, so you can catch me on Twitch three days a week! On Tuesdays, I stream D&D content. This is usually in the form of map making, and I alternate between working on maps in DungeonFog as well as working on a city map that I am doing with a drawing tablet and Affinity Photo. On Wednesdays, you can catch myself, along with Caitlin and Chantalle for some multiplayer gaming! We are alternating our weeks between a game of our choice and a game of the community’s choice through a poll on our website. These nights often have room for at least one more person, so join us in Discord and we may be able to fit you into a game. Thursdays have become my night for playing games I don’t give myself the time to otherwise. This has fallen into a pattern of The Elder Scrolls Online when Caitlin can join me, and a solo RPG every other week, currently Bioshock.
There are also some updates I have been meaning to make to the website. A few off the top of my head. I plan to do another rework to the musicians section of the website. As the list has grown, I want to find a better way to organize them, feature them, and ultimately make it easier to add new ones to the list. I have also added in a section for homebrew content that I need to populate and figure out how to organize so that people can actually find it. There are also some maps that I know need to be added to the website as well.
A big reason that I am going to take a break however, is to get back to writing and preparing for the full return of the Adventures in Erylia podcast. I have some general ideas and direction for the story going forward, but given how long we have been away from everything, I need to refresh myself by going over what I have, as well as get some things written down for the direction the players are in right now. Things are finally getting better here in the US with the vaccine being out, and the group is looking forward to getting back together. I wont say when we will return right now, because I want to take things with caution. But who knows, the next episode to release might be a remaster, or part of the new arc!
